One of the unique aspects of the Haskayne 24 Hour Case Competition is the “20 Minutes with a CGA” that all teams receive. On Friday, after the case has been handed out and the participants have had a chance to review it, each team will be given 20 minutes to interact with a CGA.

The CGA volunteers are experienced business professionals from various industries that the teams can leverage to help them with the case. While they obviously won’t be able to solve the case for you, they can help by being a valuable “sounding board” for ideas and strategy. The CGAs are more than just accountants and can offer advice besides the numbers. They have experience in all aspects of business, including marketing, strategy, human resources and finance.

As a participant, keep in mind that you will be given the time to interact with a CGA when reading the case and be sure to make the most out of this opportunity!

The Haskyane 24 Hour Case Competition, presented by FGL Sports Ltd., is a unique competition that brings together the pressure of business decision-making with the students’ developing skills in teamwork, analysis, communication, critical thinking, and quick “on-your-feet” action. Student teams will work around the clock (literally) to find solutions to real-life problems, and then present their ideas in an effective and clear manner to a panel of judges. Senior business executives from the Calgary Community serve as judges, using their unique backgrounds, experience and perspectives to critically assess the participants’ presentations. Teams are judged on creativity, insight, substance and plausibility of implementation.

In order to further enhance the educational experience for our participants, the competition will again include “20 minutes with a CGA”. CGA Alberta has been a valued sponsor of the competition, and building on two years of successful partnership, the CGA experience is continually enhanced. The “20 minutes with a CGA” will allow each team of competitors to ask questions of two experienced CGA professionals. In the past, these sessions have proven very successful and beneficial and we are excited to further extend this initiative.

The Haskayne 24 Hour Case Competition is a three-day event that will challenge students from leading MBA programs across Canada to use their creative and analytical skills to assess real problems and deliver real solutions.

The second annual Haskayne 24 Hour Case Competition will be held at the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary from March 8-11, 2012. Building on two years of success, this competition promises to become a lasting legacy of the Haskayne MBA Program.
